Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette

The Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette has been raved about ever since it launched. I’ve seen so many people talk about how much they love it and they only use this. I always wanted to get it but the price tag always got to me. It’s $49 which isn’t bad but still a bit scary. The contour palettes I had before have all been drugstore so this is the most high end palette I had bought. I got this when Sephora had the $10 off $50 sale back in the fall. It was my birthday present to myself. Also, I waited to buy it because I was wanted to get the one with refillable pans. I wasn’t sure what I would use and like since there’s only one shade option.

Let’s get into swatches and my review of the palette.

The top row: the light: Lucid, Lyric, and LevitationLucid: pinkish nude- I don’t really use this shade because I’m extremely yellow toned. So the pink I’m not sure I’ll be using or how.

Lyric: yellow beige- This shade I use a lot because of my yellow self. I sometimes use it to set my eyes. And then I use it after clean up my contour, especially if I over do it.

Levitation: soft peach- This is another I don’t really use. I’m not sure what to use it for. Maybe for correcting? I do use orange concealer for my beard and maybe I can use it to set it.

The bottom row: the shade: Sombre, Shadowplay, Subconscious

Sombre: true taupe- This shade I use the least out of the contour shades because it matches my skin the most so you don’t see it much. I use this to mix in our lighten up my contour.

Shadowplay: soft brown- This shade I use the most. You can layer these shades and build up the color. So it can get a bit too dark. I usually mix it with a little of Subconscious.

Subconscious: deep brown- This also use the least. I tried to use it on its on but it is actually hella dark. So I definitely mix this with the other shades to make them deeper.

My overall take of this palette is that I liked it, way more than I expected to. I’m not sure why this doesn’t come in more shade options, I feel like one more for fair skin and another for darker skin tones. Because I feel like this palette works pretty good on me I’m sure it fits a range of people. But definitely need at least two more.

I hate the amount of kick up it has. It’s extreme. So you really have to be careful, really use a light hand, and use a light brush. Something that won’t make it worse. Because all that powder means it’s all over the place and your brush, making you have a more extreme contour than you planned.

The smaller pans are $14 and the bigger ones are $16. Someone in reviews said to just buy another palette because if you wanted to buy the pans again, it’s $90. But, you won’t want them all at once. If you’re like me, you’re not going to use all the pans so buying a new one makes no sense. I most likely will only buy two pans so it won’t cost that much. And it’ll be a waste to buy a new palette when I’ll only use 2 out of the 6 shades.

Here’s me using the palette:

So overall I really ended up loving this palette. She’s also coming out with a cream version of the palette. I’m not sure if get that because I’m not good with cream contours. The closest I’ve been to cream contouring is contour sticks. So I’m not sure if I’ll be buying this. I have about 5 contour palettes so I’m good on the contour palettes for right now.

Lemme know what you guys think of this palette is you have it. And what you use some of the shades for. Will guys be getting the cream version? As always, thank you so much for reading, stay purple.

June- Medusa’s Makeup Beauty Box

Hey guys I know I am super late with posting this months beauty box. Between the heat wave and it getting me super sick, I literally had nothing in me to do swatches or reviews. And I must admit to being a bit depressed lately, and sometimes it effects my blogging among other things. So I finally sat down and did these swatches and I’ll go through them really quick.

Hey June!:

1. Lipstick in Yolo- $12:

This lipstick is a semi matte lipstick in the shade Yolo. It’s a bright pink and it’s pretty full coverage. I kind of had to go over it a few times to get it completely opaque. This is not one of my favorite shades. I literally hate pink lipstick and it is so not for me.
2. Totally Baked Eyeshadow in Tubular- $9:

Tubular is a teal green. I’m really loving these new baked shadows. They are very pigmented and they are not dry like other baked shadows. I’m pretty sure if you were to wet these they’d be even more amazing.

3. Oh So Natural Lip & Cheek Stain in Raven- $8:

This is a lip and cheek stain in the shade Raven. You can use this all over your face. I have used them one the cheek and eyes and lips. I like them best on the lips. Very moisterizing in the winter.  This is a comparison of two different lip stains. The second shade is Moody, which is darker and more pigmented than Raven. Raven is a sheer cherry shade whereas Moody is a bit more of an opaque cherry shade.

4. Shimmer Eye Dust in Jail Bait- $8:

Jail Bait is shimmery baby pink. It’s a loose shadow with a shifter and is 1.5 grams.

Total: $37

It’s not an overall exciting box but I like everything but the lipstick. The shade is just not for me. I was happy to get another of the lip stains.

Let me know if you liked this months box and if you have subscribed to their subscription. Thanks so much for reading and stay purple.

Lime Crime Hi-Lite: Opals

When Lime Crime came out with highlighters, it was just mean. Mean because Lime Crime is so extra and you knew these would be hella extra too. Mean because I knew it’d make my wallet hurt. And mean because I know I’d have no choice but to get them. I really love unconventional highlighters because I’m weird and also that’s what I would create if I had the chance.

And these highlighters are really different because they are iridescent. The holographic nature in them is beyond. I wish I had a camera to be able to capture how amazing these are. I wore this one night and literally went crazy putting it all over my face. And of course on those beat face nights is when you can never get a good picture.

Pink:Gold: Peach:

These are formulated to be translucent in the base and then come to life once it’s on your skin. They are calling these milky shades that adapt to every type of skin tone once applied. These are vegan and cruelty free. The packaging is so beautiful, a hard material with a magnetic closure. The package itself is so holographic and beautiful, I’m not sure how I’ll ever be able to throw it away. Each highlight is 0.25 oz, which is 0.01 smaller than the pans in the ABH quad Glow Kits. So you’re definitely getting a good amount of product.

These are very soft and super pigmented. As you can see, you can blend out the product and build it up. The first set of swatches I wanted to sheer them out to show how they would look blended on the face. The second half were finger swatches to show exactly the type of pigmentation you’re dealing with.

And who is about the mermaid collection?? I know I definitely am. I swear Lime Crime wants all our money and they ain’t sorry about it. Let me know if you bought any their Hi-Lites and if you got the mermaid collection. Thank you so much for reading and stay purple.

Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter

Too Faced finally got in on the highlighter band wagon. I’m not a huge Too Faced fan, I think all their palettes look the same. But I really have fallen in love with their blushes and liquid lipsticks. And these highlighters totally stole my heart. I love the design of these so much, the packaging is just ridiculous. I didn’t care if it worked or not I just know I needed it.

I got two of the shades, Ray of Light and You Light Up My Life. I want to get all eventually but I felt these shades would look best on me.

Let’s light it up!:

Ray of Light:

Ray of Light is a rose gold highlight shade.

You Light Up My Life:

You Light Up My Life is a gold highlight shade.
These are 0.32 oz each and $30. This is definitely up there with my more expensive highlights. I know the lighting on these pictures are very wonky but the chrome of packaging made it so difficult to capture! I absolutely love love love the heart shaped compact. Has a mirror, and a magnetic snap closure. The product itself is shaped like diamond facets with the logo initials branded on them.

The formula is a combination of powder,  liquid, cream, and baked formulations. This is an Italian liquid to powder formulation. The pearls aren’t crushed but kept whole to reflect light from any angle. The feeling of the highlight is extremely soft and melts onto the skin. I know a lot of people were upset because it wasn’t a super blinding highlight. This is definitely one of the more subtle ones that released this year. But you can always build it up.

I do like a hella blinding glow but I’m not mad at these. And you can always wear it wet, and build build build. The gold is definitely the more pigmented of the two.

I can’t wait to actually wear these. Let me know if you picked any up and how you like them. If you have  questions feel free to ask. Thanks so much for reading and stay purple.

Melt Cosmetics Digital Dust Highlight

Omg y’all are killing me!!! Melt Cosmetics has come out with three of their own highlighters. They are called Digital Dust highlights and these are not branded to be your typical highlighter. These aren’t made to be Instagram poppin’ but more red carpet ready. This was made for MUAs who wanted to give their clients a more wearable glow. And they wanted to bring this to us.

Now let’s glow to town:

So, you can see, straight on it’s not very full blown blinding. But gurl turn to the side and bam! I love it. This is when you want to be high fashion glow. Like you’re going somewhere super fancy or maybe you don’t want blind everyone that day. You want a low key glow.

I got one in the shade Gold Ore. I’m trying so hard to be good but Melt got me. I just had to try one. They are $39 and 8 grams. It is probably one of the most expensive highlights that I own. Especially a single highlighter. I’ve bought sets that were this much but you’re getting multiple highlights.

Anyway, I completely understand why it is this much. First, of all, indie companies I understand their pricing because it’s literally just them. It’s a small operation that’s completely organic. Not coming from corporate, and charts, and trend reports. And I must say these are really big. I love the size of the compact and it is really smooth and matte. Totally on brand. Comes with the mirror and the highlighters are imprinted with the Melt logo that have had on previous shippers. I absolutely love it. It’s so beautiful.

The closure is a magnetic snap close so you don’t have to worry about the closure wearing down. Also the formula is very high end. From what I can remember, Lora Arellano said it is combination of some of her favorite highlight formulas from brands such as Estee Lauder. So for me that’s enough for me to pick these up. I know they put a lot of work into making sure we got something really high quality.

I’m debating on getting the other two. Maybe in the future but there’s too much makeup right now. They are driving me crazy.

Let me know if you picked any up and how you feel about them. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for reading and stay purple.

Lime Crime Unicorn Hair

Hey there! I have a super fun post today. Lime Crime’s hair dye is something I’ve been dying to get my hands on ever since it was announced. Stalking Doe Deere’s and Lime Crime’s Instagram for a release date for over a year. Most anticipated thing of life. And when I saw the Insta story of the dyes being a reality soon, I screamed. I threw my phone, my head hurt and so did my wallet. But I was beyond excited. The one color I always had my eye on is Doe’s signature shade, Pony. I love how bright and amazing this shade of purple is. It’s a pretty unique shade, different then other purples I’ve used. Instead of being just being a deep purple or lavender, Pony is more an electric purple. And boy is it bright.

Let’s get into procedure:

This is my hair before we bleached it. It’s pretty faded and blonde already. But we still bleached it to make it as light as possible. The back of my hair and roots are really dark and grown out.

The bleaching process:

This is how blonde we got my hair. We don’t wait too long let the bleach process. That’s how you don’t have too much damage to your hair, especially of you dye a lot. And my hair lightened very fast, so we just listened to my hair. The green is from when I put teal steaks in my hair, so the bleach is making it resurface. We mostly cared about the roots and the darkness in the back and underneath my hair.
Fun time:

My friend dyes my hair for me because I am no good with hair. We let it set for over an hour or so.

The end result:

I absolutely love the color. Probably the brightest I ever been. As you can see there’s different colors and some parts are darker than others. That’s only because I’ve dyed my hair so much and have bleached it before. And I don’t like to force myself hair to get super blonde if that’s not where it’s going. I let it do what it can and that’s it. My roots were white so I am good with that.

Let’s talk about pricing. These are $16 a jar. And when I say jar, I mean jar. The amount of product these hold is ridiculous. This holds 6.76 oz/ 200 mL. Let’s compare. Pravana is 3 oz and is about $8-$11 depending on how cheap you can find it. Manic Panic is 4 oz and about $10. Special Effects is 4 oz as well and is about $8-$11 depending on where you find it. So everyone complaining about the price, they must take into consideration that one is literally twice the size of one regular one. You can see how thick my hair is and it has gotten pretty long. I would usually have to buy about three or four hair dye products to cover my hair. Me and my friend were so shocked when we literally used a jar and a half. And we were kinda just slapping dye all over just make sure every area was covered well.

What we both noticed is that when we were washing the dye out, the water runs clear. Like no dye came out at all. Like it was washing out, but nothing was in the sink. We both thought that was very interesting. And now I’m wondering whether or not it will come out in the shower. I still haven’t washed it, it’s been weeks. And before you shade me about my hair, mine doesn’t need to be washed every day. That dries out my hair.

And omg this smells sooooooo good!!!! It smells floral and sweet. It smells amazing like I can smell that all day. Probably the best smelling hair dye I’ve ever encountered.

Here are the other shades:

Chocolate Cherry, Anime, Pony, Salad, Strawberry Jam, Neon Peach

Gargoyle, Dirty Mermaid, Blue Smoke, Leelo, Jello
Bunny, Sext

I really really love these shades! I’m excited to try more but I am purple living right now. I love that I only need two, and Doe was not playing! She even gave a coupon for a discount for when you need to buy more dye for your next touch up! And it lasts all the way to September!!! And I still have a jar and a half so I am definitely good for awhile. I cannot wait to see how this fades and will totally keep you updated.

Let me know if there’s anything else you want to know or see. Feel free to ask any questions at all. Thank you guys so much for reading and stay purple!!

May- Medusa’s Makeup Beauty Box

Hey guys! Back again for this month’s beauty box from Medusa’s Makeup. This month’s is pretty cool and full of their newer goodies. Let’s get right into swatches. I don’t have much of an introduction today.

May Beauty Box:

1. Glitter in Pegasus- $7:

Pegasus is a lavender glitter with some blue and pink undertones. The shade is so beautiful. Pegasus is the perfect name for this. It’s such a magical shade.

2. Totally Baked Eyeshadow in Bitchin’- $9:

Bitchin’ is apart of their new baked eyeshadows. This color is a shimmery champagne color. This is really pretty and can also double as a highlighter.

3. Lip Paint in Shag- $12:

Shag is their Lip Paint, their new liquid lipsticks. I really really really hate this color. Like it does not go well with me at all. It’s a nude coral shade and it’s very very light. I’m hoping to get a better shade in future.

4. Lip Paint Remover- $10:

This is the Lip Paint remover. It’s completely vegan and cruelty free. It’s a proprietary blend of almond oil, grapeseed oil, and fragrance. I like that you can really smell the almond and grapeseed. This doesn’t work right away. You let it sit on the lips and I like to rub it in. I let it set and break down the liquid lip and wipe it off. It completely comes off there is no residue. The ingredients are so natural I’m not scared if I swallow some or not.

This month’s total: $38

This month definitely had some big ticket items. Still not in love with the Lip Paint shade so I don’t know when I’ll actually be able to use one. This just did not look nice on me. But I really liked everything else and happy to try another new item.

Hope this helped in your decision on whether or not you would want to get this beauty box. It’s $16 a month, cruelty free and vegan. Thanks so much for reading and stay purple.
